When someone files for bankruptcy they are responsible for the fees associated with the debt relief. The Court charges a filing fee, which they adjust every so often. There is a fee for pulling a credit report, a fee for the two credit counseling classes that must be completed, and attorney’s fees. Unfortunately, the attorney does not get paid by the Court, so the client is responsible for those fees. Usually with all fees, a basic Chapter 7 bankruptcy will be under $2,000.00. Many times the attorney’s fees can be paid in installments. If the case is more complicated, the fees will be higher. This is a minimal price for the relief that can be relieved through the bankruptcy process.
